Money, crucial to be happy

The Gyeonghyang daily newspaper says that the foremost important condition to be happy is money for the Koreans. "Health" took the second place, family the third, friends and relationships the fourth and religion, mindset came the last. Work, job, fame and success became are traditional keywords to this generation. People now put more value on practical things such as wealth and human relations.

People have different things they think it is important. However, I thought it was rather sad that people are becoming more and more cold minded and practical. Is money the most important thing to become happy?

Hmmm...money can't buy happiness...but it sure helps! We say this sometimes. I wonder if money becomes more important in a society that has suffered so much for so long(like Korea), that having material security becomes very important. Or maybe this is a characteristic of industrialization. In the US, the current generation in high school wants and expects more than their parents every had, but my generation and the one after are the first generations which will really not be able to do better than their parents because of the economy and the shift in the global market. As a result, there is a leaning towards more volunteerism, do it yourself projects and flexible work to allow for other values.
